Weather and the Seasons

Students in Room 13 have been learning all about weather and the seasons. We hope to be able to apply our new knowledge to the world around us.

At first we talked about all the things we already know about weather. Next, we read lots of books and saw lots of pictures about the weather so we could list questions. Hopefully by the end of our topic we will be able to answer the questions we made earlier in the term.

Each day we go outside to make an observation of the weather. We record the day, date, time, maximum and minimum temperatures and write a short observation about what we see and feel. We think it is important to record our observations so that we can remember facts in the future.

We have made beautiful posters about the four seasons. These are:
Summer
Autumn
Winter
Spring
The tricky part is knowing which months belong to which season!

We have thought about what clothes we wear during different types of weather. Each student chose from freezing, cold, cool, warm, hot or boiling and drew a picture with labels of appropriate clothing to match. We then thought about what we might do or where we might be during that type of weather.

Storms have been quite a focus for students of Room 13. We spent a couple of lessons reading books, writing questions and brainstorming facts about storms. Students were encouraged to practise their reading and writing skills during these activities.

Our class tree is coming along beautifully! Each Friday students have been making leaves, flowers, rain drops and snowflakes to put on our 'Seasons Tree'. Each branch has been dedicated to a season; can you guess which is which?
